Soon it was graduation time for the elementary/middle school set, and off to Girls' High School, as it was called. This photo was taken in 1930, the year she graduated from the 8th grade. She also received a gold ring with a diamond chip that said "1930" on it. This she presented to me when I graduated the 8th grade, precisely fifty years later. She suggested that I change the "30" to an "80," but I wanted no part of that. I liked the ring just the way it was, and have kept it so ever since. Somewhat of a bigger deal was made in 1930 over 8th grade graduations, perhaps because so few could go on to high school in hard times.
